How To Manage Your Money For More Freedom

We have become conditioned into believing that money will solve most things in life. It’s just a case of getting more money to solve the problems when they arise. The problem is we are not always as effective as we could be with our money.

We can find ourselves in a cycle of living, the more we are spending, the more we have to earn. We never get our head above the parapet and this stops us from freeing ourselves from this cycle. Many of us think working more in order to earn more is the answer. But this results in less time, and also less energy or inclination to solve problems without using cash to do it. When further issues or situations arise, we have even less time or energy to deal with it and ending up spending even more.

There is a way out of this cycle of living. We have to start living without. We are socially conditioned to ownership, but many of the items that we believe that indicate that we are succeeding in life are actually holding us back from really living it to the potential that is possible. A good example is the car we drive. The car is a form of transport used to move ourselves and objects from one place to another. As long as it is comfortable and reliable it is doing its job. But, social norms would say that to have achieved something in life we should have a car that reflects that. So we buy the most expensive, newest car we can afford. Often choosing makes and models that are ‘known ‘to have a certain prestige value and are a sign of ‘success’. But we don’t need this. As was said before, a car is a form of transport and if we consider it as purely that, we don’t have to spend a fortune on it.

We also have a tendency to live in a throw away culture. If it doesn’t work, we dispose of it and buy another one. We have lost the war-time attitude of fixing and repairing things. Often we don’t have time. Why? Because we are busy at work earning money that then goes on buying replacements rather than repairing or fixing. Can you see the cycle we are caught into? If we learn to live with less, managing with what we have, we will not need to earn as much. This could mean that we can work less, giving us more free time, time to do those repairs, but also time to enjoy more freedom in life, free from the grindstone of work.

What we need to ask ourselves is, why have lots of stuff to own, a flash car to drive, a big house to live in, if we have to spend a large amount of our time earning money to pay for it. Wouldn’t having more control of our life, with more freedom from working for money be more liberating? After all, we only live this life once.
